iPhone Developer : Individual or Company

I joined the iPhone developer program as an individual last October. After a slow start I began writing my first app at the beginning of this year and by March I was ready to publish. In going through the publish process, I discovered various tax requirements and decided it would be easier to publish the apps through my company which I’ve been running for over 15 years. I contacted Apple and was told I could convert my individual developer enrollment to a company one and it should only take a few weeks.

A few weeks and some…

Fast forward 3-4 months to June and I have at last got a working account and can at last publish apps. It seems Apple had a few problems with what looks like two separate systems talking to each other. My enrollment within the iPhone developer program was successfully converted within a few weeks, however my iTunes connect account was not. It continued to show my name where my companies name should have been. 20+ emails and months later things seem to have been fixed – until I actually tried to upload an app. It then said I needed to accept a new set of terms and conditions, but the page where you accept said that they had already been accepted. So after another week or so, things were at last working. Time to publish…

Moral of the story. Don’t try and convert from an individual to a company account. Just spend another $100 and register the company from scratch.
